In Celebration Of Phlox

Reposting from a few years ago.

I love Phlox. It has been a part of my landscape ever since I moved to Paris Landing. It's just starting to bloom around the neighborhood but here are some of my favorite photos from the past.

It's wonderful in those hard to mow areas.

Up close in a back door garden.  Sure to bring a smile to visitors.

Or, go big! This is the front yard of my first home at Paris Landing.  I know my neighbors thought I was crazy when I spent months and months out there with a shovel rearranging rocks and planting things.  But it was all worth it.  The first Spring when all the Phlox, Ajuga, Daffodils and Azalea bloomed - well, it was breath taking.  It was a perfect fix for a hill that was impossible to mow.

The Roses Are Blooming At Paris Landing - You've Got To Stop & Smell The Roses

The roses are blooming in Paris Landing.  Thanks to John Peddy for the gorgeous photo!
This song is perfect for Paris Landing.  There is a link below if you would like to listen to it.

Stop and Smell the Roses-
Mac Davis
Hey Mister
Where you going in such a hurry
Don't you think it's time you realized
There's a whole lot more to life than work and worry
The sweetest things in life are free
And there right before your eyes
You got to Stop and Smell the roses
You've got to count your many blessings everyday
You're gonna find your way to heaven is a rough and rocky road
If you don't Stop and Smell the roses along the way
Before you went to work this morning in the city
Did you spend some time with your family
Did you kiss your wife and tell her that she's pretty
Did you take your children to your breast and love them tenderly
You got to Stop and Smell the roses
You've got to count your many blessings everyday
You're gonna find your way to heaven is a rough and rocky road
If you don't Stop and Smell the roses along the way
Did you ever take a walk through the forest
Stop and dream a while among the trees
Well you can look up through the leaves right straight to heaven
You can almost hear the voice of God
In each any every breeze
You got to Stop and Smell the Roses
You've got to count your many blessings everyday
You're gonna find your way to heaven is a rough and rocky road
If you don't Stop and Smell the Roses along the way
You got to Stop and Smell the roses
You've got to count your many blessings everyday
You're gonna find your way to heaven is a rough and rocky road
If you don't Stop and Smell the roses along the way

Hello Summer

Today is the first day of summer. And it's Hot!

The Queen Anne's Lace is having at it.

As are the Day Lilies.

At Sweetvalley Cabin Rental
And the Clematis are blooming their silly heads off.

And the Wild Daisies.

Everyone is looking for cool respite in the shade,

or jumping in the lake, or ...

(we saved the cutest for last) the nearest pool.  This one is at KOA of Paris Landing.

"There's a time in each year that we always hold dear,
Good old summer time;
With the birds and the treeses and sweet-scented breezes,
Good old summer time.
When your day's work is over then you are in clover,
And life is one beautiful rhyme,
No trouble annoying, each one is enjoying,
The good old summer time."

Have a happy summer!

Tulip Boat Revisited

This boat is one of my favorite scenes here at Paris Landing.  It's not my boat, but I wish it was.    The owners keep it planted with blooming flowers all during the growing season.

Here are a couple of photos from previous years.

Dogwoods

The Dogwoods can't decide ....

if they are green, or ....

or purple, or
somewhere in between.

And look at all those red berries!

I love Fall!

Flip Flops & Dragonflies

The Fishtale Lodge recently turned their swimming pool into a garden area with a waterfall.

Love the dragonfly and flip flops ... and the bike ... and the water fall.

Wish you could hear this waterfall.  It took me a few trips over there to realize the fresh, tropical feeling I was getting everytime I came to visit ~ was coming from the sound of this waterfall.

Remember this?

Well!  You should see it now.

The front.
All decked out in summer flowers.
Photographed at the Carpenter house on Lakehill Beach Estates Road.

The back.
Bill Carpenter gives Freida all the credit for their gorgeous flowers.

Love this yard ornament.

A Morning at the Lake

Things I Like At The Lake

Not only are the birds well fed ... they have a spectacular view!

Summertime flowers are having at.

Buy a print or view other scenes of my neighborhood by clicking here.
Found a pretty place to sit and watch the world go by over at Anne's place.

My sister Anne always lets the  Queen Anne's Lace grown wild in her yard.

And just look at this face!

Awwwww!

Wisteria & Kittys

If you aren't into flowers or the wonders of Spring, you may need to take a detour for a few weeks from this blog. Here at Paris Landing we are having one of the most beautiful Springs!  All the flowers and blooming trees are perfect this year and I just can't help my self.  It's just too pretty to ignore.

So any way, I was visiting my friend Cindy Rice the other day and she mentioned she had a pretty Wisteria bush and didn't I need a photo of some Wisteria.  Well, I'm always game for a neat photograph and I had seen some Wisteria around here, a small bush here and there, but nothing that just begged to be photographed.  She kept telling me what a pretty Wisteria bush it was so I thought, why not?

Well .......

My goodness!

I love it!!!  And then - along came this sweet little creature!

Hello kitty, kitty!

And of course while I was there I had to look around for other neat things.

Like this lizard attached to a Kentucky Lake rock with their house number, and ..

... these pretty little stepping stones.

Well ... hello again!  Apparently the Wisteria also makes a great jungle gym for the kitty.

Back to interesting things.
A bird house in a bird bath.  How convenient!
One of the most interesting potting/storage??? sheds I've ever seen.
There may be a painting here.

Let's see now, why was I here?
Oh yes.

The Wisteria!
Bye, bye!  Hope you enjoyed your visit.

A Boat Full of Tulips

This landscape has to be a Paris Landing original.  A real boat full of Tulips!

I've been trying to get this photograph for about four Springs now.  I was always too early, too late, or the weather wouldn't cooperate.  Here's another view.

Bill Carpenter on Lakehill Beach Estates Road deserves a Green Thumb Award for these perfect tulips and for the idea of using an old boat for a raised flower bed.

Thank you Bill for brightening up our neigborhood and for putting up with that crazy photographer you keep seeing in your front yard.

Sweetvalley In the Spring

My little brother John owns a cabin in the prettiest little valley.

It's rightly named - Sweetvalley.

He rents it out to fishermen, hunters, nature lovers, honey mooners and all sorts of folks looking for a quiet, private little place to spend a weekend on Kentucky Lake.  You can check it out here.

His gardner, my sister Anne, has a green thumb and .... a thing for pansies,

and more pansies,
and more pansies,

and even pansies in a tree stump.  Actually, I really think this is a pretty creative way to cover up a stump.  What do you think?
